Tim Ellison

Born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, Tim’s hospitality industry career has spanned nearly 50 years in this competitive market.

A lifelong commitment to continuing education includes a Bachelor of Hospitality Management from Vancouver Community College, a Diploma of Hospitality Administration from the British Columbia Institute of Technology, a Red Seal in Cooking, Chef de Cuisine certification by the Canadian Culinary Institute, and certification as a Sommelier by the International Sommelier Guild.

As well, Tim has successfully completed the rigorous Diploma of Wine and Spirits from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) based out of London England and achieved Level Three Assessor status allowing him to become an Approved Program Provider and deliver their course material. In 2014, with Tim being the sole WSET instructor for the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts, their innovative program was shortlisted as one of the top ten best out of over 2000 APP’s worldwide.

Volunteer service includes serving as the Provincial Technical Committee Chair for Skills BC culminating by selection as National Technical Committee Chair for Skills Canada where Tim oversaw the successful execution of three national and numerous provincial competitions. He was a member of the Bacchanalia Gala Committee for the Vancouver International Wine Festival, held a seat on the Sector Advisory Group for Hospitality (Vice Chair) for the Industry Training Authority of BC and acted as a Chef/Assessor qualified to award Red Seals in Cooking. As well as being a past member of the Society of Wine Educators (Washington, DC), Tim was the founder and served as President of the BC Wine Appreciation Society from 2003 to 2009.

Presently, he sits on the provincial board of the Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers and the Professional Advisory Committee for Vancouver Community College’s Hospitality Program.

Published in consumer and trade magazines including Tidings, Publican, InnFocus, The Quarterly Pour, Alberta F&B News, newsprint, radio, and appearing on television (NBC’s The Today Show, CBC, CTV, City TV and Food Network), Tim continues to promote and reinforce the benefits of skills development, knowledge, and professionalism in the hospitality industry

His most recent appointment is as the Director of Sales for the prestigious Vancouver Club.
